News and Info Wedmore Opera is pleased to present, on 9th, 11th, 12th, 16th, 18th and 19th July, a new production of Puccini’s La Bohème in Wedmore Village Hall. Join us to celebrate 20 years of opera in Wedmore! For this brand-new production we have assembled an impressive cast of soloists , including Marie Vassiliou as Mimi and Blake Fischer as Rodolfo. They will be supported by our talented chorus, and a reduced orchestra will provide the perfect accompaniment to ensure musical balance. This story of love and death in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 19th century is one of Puccini’s greatest works. It is a very human tragedy, interspersed with light-hearted and romantic moments, and interpreted through music of sublime beauty. An innovative design by Charlie Cridlan will make imaginative use of the staging space, and raked seating will enhance the view for everyone in the audience. You are welcome to bring a picnic, using the field opposite the Village Hall to park and eat. There will of course be an opera bar, which will be open before the show, during the interval, and for a limited time afterwards. As many of you already know, we have decided to return to Wedmore Hall for this production. The thought of dry ground under our feet and solid walls round us proved very seductive in the face of the deluging rain and high winds of last summer. The Hall is where we began, and we only moved out when the audience far outnumbered our seating capacity. More information about tickets is available here. Priority bookings for Patrons can be made between 24th and 30th April, whilst priority bookings for Friends can be made between 2nd and 12th May. The public box office opens on 13th May. On the 10th July, we will host Richard Herring’s brand-new show The Headmaster’s Son prior to its run at the Edinburgh Festival in August. As well as being – in fact – the son of the ex-headmaster of the Kings of Wessex School in Cheddar, Richard has enjoyed phenomenal success as a comedy writer and performer on radio and TV with shows such as Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World and Fist of Fun. He went on to co-develop This Morning with Richard Not Judy, a live comedy TV series for BBC2. Thanks to the kindness of Robbie and Julie Stephenson, we are able to offer the lower part of the Glebe Field for parking and picnicking. In addition, an outside tented bar will enhance the opera and arts festival experience. Finally, to increase the comfort of our audience, we will bring into the hall a raked-seat system which will raise the majority of the seating, allowing a far better view of the production.
